RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MODIFIED 1983 SEAGRAVE
PUMPER FROM THE NORTH KOHALA COAST VOLUNTEER FIRE COMPANY FOR
USE IN THE NORTH AND SOUTH KOHALA DISTRICTS
WHEREAS, the North Kohala Coast Volunteer Fire Company raised a substantial
amount of funds which it used to purchase a 1983 Seagrave Pumper which has been modified to
carry one thousand gallons of water; and
WHEREAS, the value of this donation to the County of Hawaii is NINETY
THOUSAND AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($90,000.00); and
WHEREAS, the acceptance of this donation into the County of Hawaii's inventory of fire
fighting vehicles will increase the capability of the Hawaii County Fire Department and the
North Kohala Coast Volunteer Fire Company to respond to fires in the North and South Kohala
districts; and
WHEREAS, acceptance of this donation will increase public safety for the residents of
North and South Kohala; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities, or other
personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the
County of Hawaii is authorized to accept a modified 1983 Seagrave Pumper from the North
Kohala Coast Volunteer Fire Company.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it is the intent of the County of Hawaii that this
donation will be assigned to the North Kohala Coast Volunteer Fire Company to provide fire
protection for persons and property located in the North and South Kohala districts and that it be
used for no other purpose than for the direct or indirect benefit of the people of those districts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation be sent to the North Kohala
Coast Volunteer Fire Company to acknowledge this generous donation.
The County Clerk shall forwazd copies of this resolution to the North Kohala Coast
Volunteer Fire Company, the Department of Finance, Accounts Division, and to the Hawaii
County Fire Depaztment.
