RESOLUTION NO. S4~' 8~
WHEREAS, Kokua Ohana, a volunteer group composed of parents and
supporters formed for the noble purpose of assisting with the de-
velopment of disabled children in the districts of Kohala, Waimea,
and Honokaa, marks its first year of existence; and
WHEREAS, the necessary funding of this humanitarian efforts
comes mainly from fund raising projects like bake sales and contri-
butions generously donated by people and businesses throughout the
area; and
WHEREAS, in its maiden year, Kokua Ohana started in the summer
of 1983, a swim program with a planned expansion in 1984 of this
well received and highly successful effort; and
WHEREAS, at present Kokua Ohana is establishing a task force to
look into the feasibility of initiating respite programs to better
the services in the recreational and educational activities for the
disabled children whom they serve; and
WHEREAS, commensurate with this effort, Kokua Ohana volunteers
led by Judy Ellis have nearly completed the construction of wheel-
chair accessible restrooms and ramps in the Kohala mountains which
will enhance horseback riding programs for disabled people all over
the island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes and congratulates Kokua Ohana on the
advent of their first anniversary and wishes them continued suc-
cesses in their worthy pursuit of aiding the development of our
disabled children.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Kokua Ohana
officers, President Frances Hao, Vice-President, Betty Esmeralda,
Secretary-Treasurer, Linda Yadao, Advisor Arli Garcia and volunteer
Judy Ellis.
