County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Big Island Recreation and Tourism Project was
organized in 1983 by a Steering Committee representing a
cross-section of Big Island residents to develop and promote ocean
recreation and tourism and to encourage compatible uses of marine
areas; and
WHEREAS, numerous agencies and organizations have worked to
develop marine activities and facilities but a coordinated effort
would more efficiently accomplish this task; and ,
WHEREAS, House Concurrent Resolution No. 35 names the Sea Grant
Extension of the University of Hawaii at Manoa as the coordinating
body for the Big Island Recreation and Tourism Project; and
WHEREAS, organized marine activities and educational facilities
would attract visitors to the Big Island and be available for
Hawaii's residents so that they may more fully experience and
appreciate the Big Island's ocean wonders.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it supports House Concurrent Resolution No. 35 and the
objectives of the Big Island Ocean Recreation and Tourism Project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to the
Honorable Richard Wong, President of the Senate; the Honorable Henry
Peters, Speaker of the House of Representatives; Mr. Jack Davidson,
Director of the Sea Grant Extension Service; and Ms. Barbara Lee,
Chairperson of the Big Island Ocean Recreation and Tourism Project
Steering Committee.
