Resolution
WHEREAS, Keahuolu (Ke-ahu-o-Lu), ahupua'a (land division),
North Kona, Island of Hawaii, contains the site of the old Kona
Airport, which has been designated as a County Park under
General Lease 5-4565; and
WHEREAS, the present site of the county park contains and is
contiguous with such significant Hawaiian historical sites
including, (North to South) Pawai, Maka'eo, Kuka'ilimoku,
Pohakuloa, and Puaniani; and
WHEREAS, the county Park constitutes the single facility of
its nature within said Ahupua'a of Keahuolu, and should reflect
the appropriate geographical location; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable to perpetuate Hawaiian geographical
place names to the maximum extent.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that "Keahuolu" (Ke-ahu-o-LU, the altar of Lu) be
designated the name in perpetuity of the County Park located at
the old Kona Airport.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to Mayor Herbert
Matayoshi; Susumu Ono, Chairman, Department of Land & Natural
Resources; Milton Hakoda, Director, Parks & Recreation;
Sidney Fuke, Planning Director, Kailua Special Design Committee,
and Hualalai Exchange Club.
