Re: Res. 841=.$4 O O County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the Governor's Small Business Advisory Committee and Committee on Doing Business in Hawaii recently released their reports highlighting the strengths and weaknesses of Hawaii's business economic climate; and WHEREAS, the principal assets depicting Hawaii's business environment are its appealing quality of life, promising visitor industry, and firmly established military presence; and WHEREAS, Hawaii's tax structure, workers compensation program, cumbersome permitting processes, and strained business-government relations are a few of the many factors contributing to Hawaii's anti-business climate; and WHEREAS, Hawaii's economic stability depends on the success of State and local governments, businesses, and residents as they cooperatively strive to promote an atmosphere conducive to the survival of the largest to smallest business entrepreneur. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it acknowledges the plight of the small businessman who, although playing a vital role in the State's economy, struggles for survival. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it pledges to streamline the bureaucratic processes at the county level to do whatever necessary to enhance the survival of the business community. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is directed to transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable George Ariyoshi, Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Mr. Richard West, President, Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Byron Fox, President, Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce; Mr. Donald Yamada, President, Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaii and Mr. Robert Santos, President, Portuguese Chamber of Commerce.
