' O RESOLUTION NO. ~ '8 8~' O WHEREAS, a Big Island native, Kotoku "Curly" Miyashiro recently retired following 42 years of service as the branch manager for the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Hilo; and WHEREAS, Mr. Miyashiro was publicly known as "Mr. Coca Cola" who directed the distribution of the soft drink throughout the island of Hawaii and assisted the many organizations in their fund raisings by furnishing drinks, napkins, cups, and dispensers; and WHEREAS, Mr. Miyashiro, also known as Curly, recalled the two devastating tsunamis in the years 1946 and 1960, which practically destroyed the Coca Cola Bottling Plant, then situated just below our present County building; and WHEREAS, Curly has been active in community activities throughout his career, serving as president of Hui Okinawa 'Club; a member of the Waiakea Lions Club - serving as chairman of the Citizen & Social Service Committee; is a member of the Holy Cross Church - serving as a Deacon and a member of the choir, and was also a member of the Japanese and Hawaii Island Chambers of Commerce; and WHEREAS, Curly's inspiration to serve the people at his place of work and with the community organizations has left his mark of aloha for all to remember. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its best wishes and continuous good health to Kotoku "Curly" Miyashiro during his retirement years. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit a true copy of this resolution to Kotoku "Curly" Miyashiro.
