HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 837 Draft 01 1980-1984"~ ~ o ~ o RESOLUTION NO. ~3~' 8~ WHEREAS, the Board of Regents of the University of Hawaii has recently announced that Charles Michael Fullerton, presently a Professor of Meteorology and Director, Cloud Physics Observatory Department of Meteorology, University of Hawaii, Manoa (at Hilo), Professor 'of Physics, Division of Natural Sciences, College of Arts and Science, University of Hawaii-Hilo was appointed the Dean of the College of Arts & Science; and WHEREAS, Dean Fullerton began his teaching at Hilo in 1966 as an Assistant Geophysicist, Assistant Professor of Physics, was tenured in 1974 and served as the acting Provost (Hilo College) in the same year; and WHEREAS, Dean Fullerton will be eminently qualifying scientists who will be heading the College of Arts & Sciences, University of Hawaii at Hilo, overseeing the following disciplines: Humanities Division - English, Speech, Philos- ophy, Foreign Languages, Hawaiian Studies. Natural Sciences Division - Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geology, Mathematics, Computer Sciences. Social Sciences Division - Political History, Geography, Business Administration, Sociology, Psychology, Health & Physical Education, Educa- tion, Anthropology; and WHEREAS, Dean Fullerton was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and was the valedictorian of his class of 1950, attended Sewanee Military Academy, Sewanee, Tennessee and served in the U. S. Army as a Commander, 4th Ordinance Co. (Guided Missile Maintenance Repair), White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico; Adjutant, 61st Ordinance Group, and Administrative Assistant to the Post Ordinance Officer, Fort Bliss, Texas; and WHEREAS, Dean Fullerton published more than sixteen scientific papers, served as a consultant and lecturer in many symposiums, and often gave free lectures in the field of geoscience. WHEREAS, Dean Fullerton's community involvement includes asso- ciations in various capacities with the Hawaii Island Academy of Science; Hilo Rotary Club; County of Hawaii Advisory Committee on Air Pollution (State Dept. of Health); U. H. Environmental Center (Honolulu); Governor's Conference on Year 2000; U. H. Hilo Sigma xi Club; Board Member, St. Joseph's Schools; Hawaii Island United Way; and ~;,,, No.._~...... 837 r~z' -if3. .._........_.~. i1i. _,. F O. ..`..+ r ~ O O WHEREAS, the Fullerton's three children (Stephanie 17, Christopher 16, Amy 10) are students of Hawaii's Public School System, and he and his wife Jane reside in Kurtistown. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to Dean Charles Michael Fullerton for his promotion as the Dean of College of Arts & Science, University of Hawaii at Hilo. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii hereby remits a true copy of this resolution to Dean Charles Michael Fullerton.
