RESOLUTION NU. ~~~ ~~
WHEREAS, Ueitre Collins, middle blocker for the University of
Hawaii at Manoa Women's Volleyball team, was the 1982-83 recipient
of the coveted Broderick Cup and was nominated for its 1983-84
award; and
WHEREAS, the Broderick Cup is awarded to the best female
collegiate athlete in the United States and never before to a
volleyball player; and
WHEREAS, Deitre Collins, in December 1983, gained All-American
honors for the third time during her volleyball career; and
WHEREAS, Deitre Collins was the driving force behind the Rainbow
Wahines as they dominated women's collegiate volleyball during the
last two seasons and captured the 1983 NCAA Division II National
Volleyball Championship; and
WHEREAS, Deitre Collins will be participating in a special
try-out for a seat on the USA Women's Olympic Volleyball Team.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 8Y THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
WAWAII that it extends its warmest congratulations to Deitre Collins
for being awarded the Broderick Cup, for once again attaining
All-American status, and for her outstanding performance as a member
of ttre University of Hawaii at Manoa Volleyball Team.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it wishes Deitre Collins the best of
luck as she vies for a position on the U5A Women's Clympic
Volleyball team.
