RESOLUTION NO. ~2~ S~
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island United; Way (HUI) will be honoring
Robert M. Fujimoto for his twenty-five years of dedicated service to
HUI, a volunteer organization created for the purpose of raising
funds for a variety of worthy community programs; and
WHEREAS, Robert Fujimoto's continuous contribution to the needs
of the community are truly remarkable because of the important
responsibilities he undertakes while attending to the priorities
that his business and other activities demand; and
distinguished himself well in his
in recognition of thirty devoted
he received the Silver Antelope
in 1963, he won both the Hilo
Award and the State of Hawaii
Jaycees' Young Man of the Year Award; and in 1966 he was selected
Jaycees' Boss of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Robert Fujimoto has
community service pursuits, for
years to the Boy Scout movement,
Award the highest in scouting;
Jaycees' Distinguished Service
WHEREAS, Robert Fujimoto's proven business acumen is exemplified
by the success of HPM, Ltd., the island's largest building supply
house of which he is the President and General Manager, and he has
received deserved recognition from his colleagues in their judicious
selection of him to serve on the board of directors with such firms
as First Interstate Bank, C. Brewer & Co., First Insurance Company,
Grand Pacific Life Insurance Company, Kurohara's Shop for Men, Data
Processing Services, Island Survey, Inc., and Flowers, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, while his support of civic causes is well known, his
involvement in State and County government affairs is equally
impressive for he served on the first County of Hawaii Charter
Commission, 1963-64; was a commissioner with the State Department of
Land and Natural Resources and the Council on Economic Education;
and presently sits on the Board of Regents, University of Hawaii,
where he held the prestigious position of chairman for two terms in
1982 and 1983; and

WHEREAS, Bob Fujimoto's years of service with the Hawaii Island
United Way reflects well the character of this respected and
influential community leader whose lifestyle is dedicated to the
Jaycee creed that "Service to humanity is the best work of life."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it commends Robert M. Fujimoto on the advent of the
deserving testimonial dinner held in tribute and appreciation for
twenty-five years of involvement with the Hawaii Island United Way
and to the community as a whole.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a true copy of this resolution to Robert M. Fujimoto and to
Francis Takahashi, HUI Executive Director.
