RESOLUTION NO. 818 Sc}
WHEREAS, during the past thirty-five years of their varied
interscholastic sports participation, the Hawaii Preparatory Academy
(H.P.A.) Boys' Cross Country Team captured the Hawaii High School
State Cross Country Championship, held on Maui on November 19, 1983;
and
WHEREAS, the H.P.A. Boys' Cross Country Team also won the 1983
BIIF Championship, has an outstanding record of eleven BIIF
championships during the past 17 years of participation, and added
to their envious record by placing in the top ten in the Hawaii High
School State Cross Country meets, nine times within the last 15
years;_and
WHEREAS, the success of the Cross Country program can be traced
to the fine coaching and their mentor Stan Shutes who came to H.P.A.
in 1969; and
WHEREAS, at the 1983 BIIF Boys' Cross Country Meet the H.P.A.
boys won with a perfect score of 15 with their entire team of seven
crossing the finish line; and
WHEREAS, the 1983 Hawaii High School State Cross Country team
included veteran seniors Chris Carswell, David Hendrickson, and
Alejandro Grundseth; junior Todd Perkins; sophomores Kimo Higqins,
Eric Heneghan, and Dax Swanson, who collectively and consistently
beat any and all competition at the county or state meets.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to the Hawaii Preparatory
Academy Boy's Cross Country Team for winning the 1983 Hawaii High
School State Cross Country Championship and the 1983 BIIF Boys'
Cross Country Championship.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council recognizes the
contributions made by Coach Stan Shutes during the 15 years at
H.P.A. in developing the outstanding runners which made up this
championship team.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit a true copy of this resolution to Coach Stan Schutes at Hawaii
Preparatory Academy and a copy to each of the runners of the H.P.A.
1983 Statewide and 1983 BIIF Cross Country Champion Team.
