HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 816 Draft 01 1980-1984 0 a County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the "Alternative Program" is an academic program which allows high school youths with special learning problems an opportunity to earn a high school diploma which they may not otherwise earn; and WHEREAS, the student body government of Honokaa High School recently recommended that the Alternative Program be adopted as a permanent part of the State Department of Education curriculum based on the significant improvement in the overall learning process for all students at Honokaa High; and WHEREAS, investment in education, particularly with respect to earning a high school diploma, greatly enhances the probability for securing jobs and realizing economic success. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it encourages the State Legislature to continue funding the Alternative Program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be sent to Mr. William Waters, Big Island member of the Board of Education; Dr. Donnis Thompson, Superintendent of the Department of Education; Senator Malama Solomon; Representative Yoshito Takamine; and Crawford Ono and Thomas Kaohimaunu, representatives of the Honokaa High student body government, who spearheaded the drive to retain the Alternative Program in Honokaa.
