Resolution No. X11 s~
WHEREAS, the County has acquired property located at 2020
Kinoole Street, Hilo, Hawaii, to house a shelter for abused
spouses; and
WHEREAS, the County has, by Resolution No. 767-83, dated
November 2, 1983, directed the Finance Director to select a
non-profit organization to lease the above-mentioned property
and operate a shelter for abused spouses; and
WHEREAS, since the County's acquisition of the property,
it has been leased, on an interim basis, to the Family Crisis
Shelter, Inc., which has been operating a shelter for abused
persons on the property; and
WHEREAS, the interim lease to the Family Crisis Shelter,
Inc., was negotiated by the Finance Director subject to the
provisions of Hawaii County Code Chapter 2, Article 19 (Ordinance
819), which limits the duration of such a lease to a maximum of
180 days without Council action; and
WHEREAS, the 180-day period may expire before the long-term
operator and lessee has been selected for the Shelter for abused
spouses; and
WHEREAS, the County Council desires that the services of
the Shelter be continued without interruption while the long-term
operator and lessee is being selected; and
WHEREAS, the Family Crisis Shelter, Inc., is currently
leasing the Shelter and providing services to the community; and
WHEREAS, the Family Crisis Shelter, Inc., is a non-profit
organization which may lease property from the County pursuant
to Hawaii County Code Chapter 2, Article 19 (Ordinance 819);

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY '~
OF HAWAII that the Finance Director is hereby directed to lease
the Shelter for abused spouses to the Family Crisis Shelter, Inc.,
on an interim basis, until the long-term lessee and operator of
the shelter is selected pursuant to Resolution No. 767-83, and
provided further, that this interim lease shall expire on
June 30, 1984, or upon execution of the long-term lease, whichever
occurs sooner.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
transmitted to the Office of the D4ayor, the Department of Finance,
the Office of Housing and Community Development, and the Family
Crisis Shelter, Inc.
