HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 801 Draft 01 1980-1984-~ ~ -~ ~ c RESOLUTION NO. $01 8a3 WHEREAS, the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants, a professional baseball team from Japan will be visiting the Big Island from December 11th through the 14th; and WHEREAS, this visitation is a bonus earned by the team members and coaches for recently winning the 1983 Japan Central League Pennant, and also for the purpose of investigating the possibility of utilizing Kona as their spring training ground beginning with the 1985 season; and WHEREAS, the Giants are owned by the Yomiuri Shimbun (newspaper) which has a circulation of over nine million and also manages two television networks; as such the team and its entourage totaling over eighty people, will have extensive newspaper and TV coverage, which no doubt will enhance our relationship and understanding between Japan and the Big Island; and WHEREAS, this welcomed visitation has the potential for both the development of mutual short and long range benefits and merits the support from all sectors of our island community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its welcome and greetings to the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants and wishes them a safe and memorable stay during their visitation to the Big Island. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Mr. Toru Shoriki, Owner; Mr. Jitsuo Hasegawa, Manager; Mr. Motoji Fujika, Former Field Manager; Mr. Sadaharu Oh, Field Manager; Mr. Hisao Toda, Director; Mr. Kiyoshi Nakahata; all of the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants organization and Mr. Alan Pratt, Chairman of the Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce, Committee on Japan, Australia, Asian, Tourist and Trade Relations, the coordinator of this visit.
