County of ,aware -®State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, Transocean Air Lines, Inc., has indicated its strong desire
to initiate passenger and cargo service to the County of Hawaii with
particular emphasis to the Kona Coast; and
WHEREAS, Transocean Air Lines was at one time, with its 6,500
employees, the nation's largest supplemental air carriers and was also
the pre-eminent charter carrier for the mainland to Hawaii route for many
years; and
WHEREAS, for the Hawaii service, TAL intends initially to use their
Boeing 707 and Douglas DC -8 aircrafts for specialized charter tour service
generated from all over the world deplaning at Keahole Airport and then
to Hilo for refueling for its return flight; and
WHEREAS, this offering to re-enter the Hawaiian market comes at a
time when the other major air carriers have recently reduced their services
to the Big Island causing a grave concern to our people and an adverse im-
pact upon the tourism and agricultural economies of this county, is a
welcomed and needed alternative worthy of our serious consideration and
approval.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that it supports in principle the potentiality for the increasing of the
tourist traffic and the improvement of the air cargo service as projected
with the re-entry of Transocean Air Lines into the Hawaiian market.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
hereby directed to forward copies of this resolution to Orville G. Tigerman,
President of Transocean Air Lines, Inc.; Honorable George R. Ariyoshi,
Governor, State of Hawaii; Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor, County
of Hawaii; along with its recommendation that TAL, Inc.'s proposal be
pursued with the best interest of the County of Hawaii in mind.
