Resolution
WHEREAS, Hilo hosted the United States Volleyball Association
National Championship Tournament May 10 through 14, 1977, with
over 102 teams and 1500 people participating; and
WHEREAS, the tournament was proclaimed to be one of the finest
in the history of the United States Volleyball Association; and
WHEREAS, Hilo has been the host to the Pacific Rim Volleyball
Championship Tournaments and has been selected as the permanent site
for this event; and
WHEREAS, the Board of Directions of the USVBA at a meeting
held in December of 1977 voted unanimously to hold a championship
tournament in Hilo in 1982; and
WHEREAS, this same Board of Directors bestowed upon the County
of Hawaii its own Region now known as MOKU-O-KEAWE.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends an invitation to the USVBA to hold its 1982
tournament in Hilo, Hawaii, and supports the sponsoring region
MOKU-O-KEAWE in their decision to host.the many teams who will be
participating in the tournament.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to Mr. Robert L. Lindsay,
President of the USVBA; to Mr. Joseph Sharpless, National Commissioner
of the USVBA; and to Elroy Osorio, Regional Commissioner, MOKU-O-KEAWE,
Hilo, Hawaii, with the wishes of the County Council for their per-
petual success.
