Smart, who has the distinction of being the sole owner, of the largest cattle ranching operations anywhere in the world by virtue of his ownership of the famous Parker Ranch; and WHEREAS, in addition to the prestigious reputation Richa'id Smart has attained in economic circles, he is also highly thought of by many as a beloved philanthropist and humanitarian with the highest. of credentials; and WHEREAS,, Richard Smart's generous commitment to the people of Hawaii includes the donation of lands, buildings, financial contri- butions and, equally important, the giving of his time and expertise towards the betterment of our island communities, more especially the district of Waimea; and WHEREAS, such endeavors by Richard Smart have resulted in improvements to the Thelma Parker. Gym, the Kamuela Library, and the upcoming 490 -seat capacity Kahilu Theater, in which he has played a major role in initiating the planning, development and improvement of these facilities. NOW., THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it recognizes and commends Richard Palmer Smart for unselfishly giving of his resources and talents towards making the community of Waimea a better and more enjoyable place to live in. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to Richard P. Smart along with its sincere appreciation and best wishes.
