Resolution No. 717
WHEREAS, more than 90 percent of Hawaii's energy supply
comes from imported petroleum products; and
WHEREAS, because of this dependence on imported petroleum
and the growing political instability of the major oil producing
nations, there exists a real need for the development of alterna-
tive energy resources and for the implementation of energy conserva-
tion programs; and
WHEREAS, the dissemination of information on energy conserva-
tion through organized symposiums and public displays is one of
the more effective means of reaching the individual consumer and
establishing that awareness and understanding necessary for effective
energy conservation; and
WHEREAS, the University of Hawaii's Center for Continuing
Education and Community Service (CCECS), in cooperation with other
agencies and private organizations, is presenting an Energy Fair
entitled "ENERGY 'AHA" during the month of November 1980, at the
Wailoa Exhibition Center; and
WHEREAS, the County Council is fully supportive of these
efforts to increase public awareness and stimulate more efficient
and effective methods of energy conservation by the consumer,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF .THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it urges active participation by the people of this
County in the "ENERGY 'AHA" fair.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of
Hawaii commends the University of Hawaii's CCECS,and the cooperating
agencies and private organizations for.their efforts in Presenting
the fair.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit a copy of this resolution to the University of
Hawaii's Center for Continuing Education and Community Services.
