Resolution
WHEREAS, the Hawaiian Beaches Community has been the test
location for a mobile community patrol program sponsored by LEAA
funds; and
WHEREAS, this patrol, comprised of volunteer citizen observers,
maintains close communications with the Puna police and other public
safety agencies resulting in (a) reduction in crime rates and
(b) improved emergency coverage; and
WHEREAS, the funding source for this program will be.terminated,
thus jeopardizing the continuation of the volunteer community patrol;
and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii has received strong
support for the continuance of this patrol from the community and
the participating agencies,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of
the County of Hawaii, to continue the support of this neighborhood
community patrol concept and to fund this concept using his available
funds.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to
the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor, County of Hawaii.
