WHEREAS, Sohn L. Fenrich, editor of the Hawaii Tribune -Herald
for the past three and one-half years, will be leaving Hawaii for
a new assignment in California; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure in Hilo, John Fenrich has earned the
respect of his peers and is admired for:
('1) Being the first person to hold the presidency of the Big
Island Press Club for two full consecutive terms in
1979 and 1980;
(2) Being the first person from Hawaii County to be invited
and to attend the American Press Institute held this year.
in Virginia;
(3) Initiating for the readers' enjoyment such popular and
innovative ideas as the country correspondent columns,
the Images of the Big Island amateur photography contest,
and the Candidate's Corner;
(4) Being instrumental in the successful production of the
BIPC Imu Shows in 1978 and 1979; and
WHEREAS, John Fenrich has improved the format of our local news,
can also be credited with assisting the Big Island Press Club to
its present positive financial status and, most importantly, has led
the newspaper profession in the establishment of a strong, effective,
and free press.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that in recognition of these outstanding accomplishments, it
extends its congratulations to John L. Fenrich for a job well done
and wishes him success in his new assignment.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to Mr.. Donald W.
Reynolds, President of Donrey Media Group; to Mr.. Jim Wilson, General
Manager of the Hawaii Tribune -Herald; and to John and Kay Fenrich.
