WHEREAS, the nationally recognized composer of operatic and
symphonic art music, Mr. Jerre Tanner, a resident of Hawaii island
since 1965, has devoted his artistic creativeness towards music;
and
WHEREAS, the paintings by John Thomas of "Boy with Goldfish,"a
continuous story depicted by seven epic master paintings, inspired
Jerre Tanner to write a symphonic composition and the collaborative
work by composer Jerre Tanner and composer -performers Leon Siu and
Malia Elliott affirmed the existence of a contemporary cultural
renaissance in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with the highest traditions of the Hawaiian
art and culture, the orchestral score to"Boy with Goldfish'by
Jerre Tanner has been acclaimed an artistic and sensitive dramati-
zation of bringing to musical life the visual imagery of the
paintings' epic mythos; and
WHEREAS, the recording of this symphonic composition with the
London Symphony Orchestra has been acclaimed a breakthrough in the
ongoing cultural development of Hawaiian music.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL.OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby takes this means to publicly express
its appreciation to Jerre Tanner for bringing to musical life in
symphonic form the interaction among our people.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is hereby directed to send a true copy of this resolution to
Mr. Jerre Tanner.
