OFFICE OF HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT. OFFICE OF THE MAYOR. 1. Add two new positions of Public Information Aide SR -10. SECTION 8.09 (c). MAINTENANCE DIVISION. DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION. 1. Add five new positions of Groundskeeper I WB -2 2. Add two new positions of Laborer I WB -2. SECTION 8.12. POLICE DEPARTMENT. 1. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from Groundskeeper II in that the Groundskeeper I works individually or as a member of a crew and sweeps up rubbish, cuts grass, trims and cultivates plants on institutional grounds, public cemeteries, grounds adjacent to public buildings or other landscaped areas; whereas the Groundskeeper II is primarily a groundskeeper, having routine supervisory responsibility over one or two assigned helpers. This class differs from the class Park Caretaker I in that the Grounds- keeper I, individually or as a member of a crew, sweeps up rubbish, cuts grass, trims and cultivates plants in institutional grounds, public cemeteries, grounds adjacent to public buildings, or other landscaped areas; whereas, the Park Caretaker I is assigned to a recreational area such as a park, playground or school campus and cares for and maintains the area and is responsible for enforcing rules and regulations on public safety and the protection of public property. This class differs from Laboring classes in that the Groundskeeper I is Primarily concerned with cleaning, improving and maintaining lawns and planted areas; whereas, Laboring classes perform a variety of manual or semi -skilled work and may perform manual tasks in keeping an area clean, such as collecting and disposing of rubbish, digging trenches and flower beds, transporting soil, etc. Examples of Duties: Cares for and maintains lawns, hedges, trees and shrubbery by cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping and raking; assists in planting shrubbery and plants, sodding lawns and propagating plants and shrubs from seeds, cuttings and roots; operates light motorized or power equipment and tools as re- quired; and may make minor maintenance repairs to such equipment; may operate an automobile or truck in the performance of duties; assists in the various trades as required; may assist in work tasks in a laundry. Minimum Qualification Requirements: Training and Experience: A combination of education and experience sub- stantially equivalent to completion of the eighth grade and one year of experience in manual labor. Knowledge of: the care and cultivation of shrubs, flowers, trees and lawns; operation and care of grounds maintenance equipment and tools. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the entry level class in the Laborer series. This class differs from that of Laborer II in that Laborer I primarily performs work of a manual nature which does not require a high degree of manipulative skill or previous work experience; whereas Laborer II in addition to performing manual work which may be heavy and arduous in nature also performs work requiring some manipulative skill requiring previous experience or training although this type of work is not of a continuing nature. Examples of iluties: Loads, moves and unloads dirt, materials and supplies; excavate with pick and shovel; back fills holes and ditches; spreads materials such as cinders, asphaltic concrete or others for road patching; cleans culverts, cuts grass, widens ditches, clears rubbish and other debris; clears roads and highways of debris, dirt, and fallen trees, rocks, and -other hazardous obstructions after heavy rain or tidal wave; prepares and sprays poison solutions for killing weeds; may operate a power mower; sweeps streets; sets out flags and lanterns to mark off construction areas and acts as flag man for safety precautions during construction or emergency periods. Clears storm drains of rubbish and rocks; burns rubbish at public dumps, and keeps area orderly; removes dead animals from roads or public highways or any other public place; feeds rock into a crusher; heats asphalt, bitumuls or crude oil for road patching; digs graves; may check trucks and other equipment for gas, oil and water; may occasionally help tradesmen by performing heavy manual work, in lifting and carrying building tools and materials; carries rock and materials and mixes cement and mortar for construction of sidewalks, curbing and stonewalls, roadways, storm drains, head- walls, bridges, concrete culverts; may operate motorized equipment to haul personnel and materials to and from worksites; may occasionally break rock and set rock for road construction; cuts wood for asphalt cookers; performs janitorial work and substitutes for parkkeeper. Distinguishing Characteristics: This class differs from that of Assistant Clerk -Typist in that the Cleric -Typist performs a variety of tasks involving referral to a number of different sources, executes assignments in accordance with general instructions, accomplishes work with some use of discretion and selectiveness in deviating from established processes and procedures, and operates a typewriter in typing materials where improvisation as to format and arrangement of data is required; whereas the Assistant Clerk -Typist performs routine, repetitive tasks which are primarily procedural in nature, executes assignments in accordance with specific instructions or clearly defined procedures, and operates a typewriter in typing materials where guides as to format and arrangement of data are readily availa- ble.
