WHEREAS, Richard Seichi Segawa, who over the past fifty years
has been associated with the `ten's Shop of Hilo, started in 1930 as
an employee and ultimately became owner and president for the past
thirty-five years, has recently retired as a businessman; and
WHEREAS, the Men's Shop, a well-known kama'aina establishment,
was nurtured to success by Dick and his wife Kiyoko through hard
work and dedication, by providing the goods and services which has
evidently satisfied many of its customers over the years; and
WHEREAS, such a successful and long tenure of a small business
entreprenuer deserves recognition inasmuch as Dick was also active
in community activities through his membership in the Upper Central
Kumiai, the Volcano Country Club, the Japanese Golf Club, the
Kaiko'o Mall Association, the Japanese Chamber of. Commerce and the
Hawaii Island. Chamber of Commerce.
NOW, THEREFORE;, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that in commemoration for the esteemed relationship that
Dick Segawa and the Men's Shop has achieved within our community,
that the County Council extends its best wishes for a well-earned
and deserved retirement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to transmit artr-uercopy of this resolution to Richard
and Kiyoko Segawa along with its Mahalo and Aloha for fifty years of
valued service and friendship.
