1. Give reasons how new duties arose (statutes enacted, Ordinances,
Newly authorized programs, basis for increased workloads, etc.):
The State Attorney General's Office has assured the Career Criminal
Program of funds for the Sr. Clerk Stenographer's position for the
1980-81 fiscal year. The CCP Unit.presently has two attorneys and
one investigator, assisted by only one legal stenographer. With.the
legal steno away from the office for vacation and other work assignments,
it has become increasingly necessary for additional assistance for both
the attorneys and the investigator. The Sr. Clerk -.Steno would be the
receptionist and also be assigned to the investigator,
2. If reallocation, list only new duties.(Example: 1. Takes
dictation 90%; 2. Keeps office accounts 30%, etc.):
N/A
3. Give reasons why new duties at higher level are needed and cannot
be assigned to classes at higher level or handled in other ways -
such as short term contracts, etc. (Use productivity measurements
where possible.): Present workload for the single legal stenographer
is -why the assistance is being requested. The program is a year to year
contract which is funded completely by the State Attorney General's Office,
therefore, not depleting County funds.
EXIIIT31,1, "13"
4. Was reallocation or reclassification budgeted and if not, why were
manpower needs not planned through budgetary process?
"-s, the new position has been budgeted in the State's 1980-81 budget
request for the Career Criminal Program, to start July 1, 1980.
5. List other rationale or pertinent statements and data:
Since the Main Office is still under -staffed in .the clerical sector,
the'additional help will assist our office should there be a sudden
increase of deadline work, and the present staff need the help. Also,
when the single legal stenographer from the CCP Unit goes on vacation,
it will not be necessary to send anyone from the Main Office to handle
their workload.
