RESOLUTION NO. 649

t:RiEREAS, Miss Herlinda T. Narvaez was crowned the 1980 "Miss
Hawaii -Puerto Rico" on June 14, 1980, and
WHEREAS, in the colorful and entertaining pageant which featured
six other lovely and talented contestants competing for the prestigious
title, Miss Narvaez displayed her pageantry versatility and charm by
also winning the swimsuit, evening gown and talent competition; and
WHEREAS, Miss Narvaez, of Puerto Rican, Spanish and Filipino
ancestry, is a vivid personality of Hawaii's unique multi -cultural
heritage; and
WHEREAS, Miss Narvaez, as the Puerto Rican community's official
greeter, will travel and meet many people during her reign as
Miss Hawaii -Puerto Rico, thus perpetuating the spirit of Aloha.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it sends its congratulations to Herlinda T. Narvaez for
her stellar performances and accomplishments in winning the 1980
Miss Hawaii -Puerto Rico title and wish her every success for an
enjoyable and memorable reign which she can forever cherish.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit true copies of this resolution to Miss Herlinda T. Narvaez;
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Narvaez of Honokaa; and to her
sponsors, B. Ikeuchi Store, Circle S. Ranch, Fellowmen of the Kitty
Hawk, and Hamakua Family Baseball Team.
