RESOLUTION NO. G41
WHEREAS, at the impressive annual Miss Hawaii Scholarship
Pageant which was held at the Blaisdell Concert Hall in Honolulu.
on June 9, 1980, Miss Keonelehua Cook was selected as the 1980
Miss Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Miss Cook, Miss Leeward 1980, in competition with
eleven other beautiful and qualified contestants, also won the
evening gown competition; and
WHEREAS, Miss Cook, born and raised in Hilo and a graduate of
the University of Puget Sound with a degree in fine arts, has
enhanced her academic aspirations as she intends to utilize her
scholarship winnings to pursue graduate studies at the Fashion
Institute of Technology in New York City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that in recognition of this esteemed title and the honors
and laurels she has won for the Big Island, that it extends
congratulations to Keonelehua Cook and wishes her further success
at the Miss America Pageant to be held in Atlantic City,
New Jersey, in September.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Connty of Hawaii
remit true copies of this resolution to the newly crowned 1980
Miss Hawaii, Keonelehua Cook, and her parents Thomas and May Cook.
