RESOLUTION NO. 602
WHEREAS, His Excellency Ferdinand E. Marcos, President of the
Republic of the Philippines, has come to Hawaii to address the
American Newspaper Publishers Association and to meet with Hawaii's
citizens of Filipino ancestry; and
WHEREAS, it is in the nature of citizens of Hawaii to extend
their hand of Aloha and greetings to a visiting head of state; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii County has enjoyed a warm and enduring relation-
ship with its Sister City in the Philippines, the City of Legazpi and
its Mayor, the Honorable Gregorio Imperial, Jr.; and
WHEREAS, President Marcos responded favorably to the appeals made
to him in early 1979 by the Naalehu Filipino Senior Citizens Club
under the leadership of Messrs. Emilio Diego, Eusebio Javar, Mauricio
Lorenzo and its members, calling for a special low air fare in
Philippine -Hawaii travel for senior citizens of all races; and
WHEREAS, this appeal has resulted in the action of Philippine
Air Lines last month to grant special travel privileges for senior
citizens not only in Hawaii, but throughout the United States; and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of many Filipino -Americans in our
community to extend a Big Island Filipino welcome to President Marcos.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its appreciation and aloha to President Ferdinand
E. Marcos on behalf of the Big Island's Filipino community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to
President Ferdinand E. Marcos; Governor George Ariyoshi; Hawaii County
Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi; the Big Island Filipino Community Council;
and the Naalehu Filipino Senior Citizens Club.
