RESOLUTION NO. )G—+3
WHEREAS, on February 5, 1980, Hilo attorney Cyril KanemitSU
was sworn in as a District Judge, District Court of the Third
Circuit; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Judge Cyril Kanemitsu was appointed
to a six-year term by Chief Justice William S. Richardson and
assigned as a resident judge for the Kona Division, which includes
the Big Island districts of Ka'u, North and South Kona and North
and South Kohala; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Judge Cyril Kanemitsu is a graduate
of the University of Hawaii and then earned his law degree in 1953
from Boston University, served as a Deputy County Attorney for
Hawaii County from 1954 to 1962 and has been in private practice
from 1962 to his time of appointment; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Judge Cyril Kanemitsu was associated
with the firm Doi, Kimura and Kanemitsu and Mr. Doi and Mr. Kimura
have preceded him to the Third Circuit Court bench making all
of the original partners judge for our Big Island courts; and
WHEREAS, as a private citizen Cyril was involved in many
community services by serving as Local president and State
Vice President for the Hilo Jaycees, Vice President for Tuberculosis
and Health Association, President of the Hilo Interpreters (Vet.),
President A. J. A. Veteran Club, member of the East Hawaii
Kiwanis, Chairman for Bert Nakaji's Scholarship Committee, Chairman
of Pack and Troop 23 American Boy Scouts; and
IMEREAS, as a Speaker Bureau Chief, Cyril contributed
greatly in the successful 1962 political campaigns in electing
John A. Burns as Governor, 47illiam Richardson as Lieutenant Governor,
Daniel Inouye as U. S. Senator, Thomas P. Gill and Snarky Matsunaga
as U. S. House of Representatives; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to The Honorable Judge
Cyril Kanemitsu for his well deserved appointment as Judge of
the District Court of the Third Circuit and wishes him well during
his tenure in office.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii send a true copy to Honorable Judge Cyril Kanemitsu.
