Resolution
WHEREAS, since January of 1980, efforts have been initiated for
the creation of a small business development center to be located
somewhere in Hilo; and
WHEREAS, this project which will be operated under the auspices
of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, would establish and maintain a
major data bank containing the full spectrum of business related
informational needs and/or services for those already in business as
well as those contemplating starting one; and
WHEREAS, this small business center would be a consortium of
interested colleges and schools throughout Hawaii, Guam, American
Samoa and other Pacific basin entities, and also part of a data
communications network using a full-scale micro -computer to collect
and disburse data oriented and unique to business enterprises in the
Pacific basin; and
WHEREAS, this kind of operations would enhance the academic
programs as well as the computer facilities at the university and
could be conceived at a nominal cost and yet have extensive capabili-
ties; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of
Hawaii that it endorses the establishment of a small business
development center in Hilo.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that true copies of this resolution be
transmitted to Dr. Fujio Matsuda, President of the University o£
, University of Hawaii at
Hawaii; Dr. Stephen Mitchell, Chancellor
Hilo; and Bob Toothman, Interim Project Director.
