WHEREAS, our island community lost a great friend and a
remarkable lady with the passing of Edith Kekuhikuhipu'uone
Kanaka'ole; and
WHEREAS, "Auntie Edith" was well-known throughout the Pacific
Islands for her skills as an educator in Hawaiiana and a premier
instructor in both the contemporary as well as'the ancient hula;
and
WHEREAS," this esteemed woman in her lifetime has earned
deserved recognition as an entertainer, an educator, an effective
community leader, a good samaritan and an extraordinary ambassador
of goodwill; and
WHEREAS, Edith Kanaka'ole has left behind a not to be forgotten
legacy of Love and Aloha to the many people who were blessed with
her friendship or her teachings..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes posthumously, "Auntie Edith" for her many
talents, her numerous achievements,.and for the memorable legacies
she leaves behind for us and the generations to_ come.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council extends its
profound expression of sympathy to the family and to the many
friends of Edith Y.ekuhikuhipu'uone Kanaka'ole and that the Clerk of
the County of Hawaii is instructed to remit true copies of this
resolution to her husband Luka Kanaka'ole, her sons 'William and
Parley Kanaka'ole, her daughters'Mrs. Norman (Edith) Floyd,
Mrs. Ezra (Pearl) Garmon, Mrs. Edward (Pualani) Kanahele and Nalani
Kanaka'ole.
