Resolution
WHEREAS, Section 264-1, Hawaii Revised Statutes, relating
to Public Highways mandates that county highways once established
shall continue until closed by a resolution of the legislative
body of the County; and
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii desires to
establish a pedestrian mall along the existing Haili Street
between the intersections of Haili-Keawe Streets and Haili-Kamehameha
parking area,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in compliance with Section 264-1, Hawaii Revised
Statutes, this resolution hereby closes that part of Haili Street
between the intersections of Haili-Keawe Streets and Haili-Kamehameha
parking area effective January 2, 1980.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE.COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII
that the closed area will be converted into a pedestrian mall.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Herbert T.
Matayoshi, Mayor; Mr. Guy A. Paul, Chief of Police; Mr. Edward
Harada, Chief Engineer; Mr. Tony Taniguchi, President of the
Downtown Improvement Association; and Mrs. Jackie Blackshear,
Chairman, South Hilo Traffic Safety Committee.
