WHEREAS, with the recent passing of Robert M. Yamada, the
Big Island lost a business, community and political leader
with esteemed credentials; and
WHEREAS, Bob Yamada was the epitome of American entrepre-
neurship as at the age of sixteen with limited formal education
and humble beginnings, he took over his father's modest trucking
business and developed it into several major entities to become
one of the island's kama'aina leaders in the trucking and con-
struction industries and
WHEREAS, despite his full business career Bob Yamada found
the necessary time to devote to his favorite avocations which.
were farming and government service; and
WHEREAS, in the former category he was a long-time sugar.
cane farmer and in recent years became involved in macadamia nut
farming; and
WHEREAS, in the governmental arena- Bob will be best remembered
as an outspoken and dedicated advocate of business interests'who
strongly supported the philosophy of the free enterprise system -
during his ten-year tenure as member of the former Board of
Supervisors and as member and Council Chairman of the present
Hawaii County Council.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY,
OF HAWAII that it extends its most profound expression of
sympathy and respect to the family of the late Robert Mitsugi
Yamada and'to also recognize posthumously his achievements and
the indelible contributions he has made in the business and the,,
governmental sectors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to his wife
Emmal his daughter Maile and his sons Ronald and Donald.
