Resolution
WHEREAS, the Directors, Associate Directors, and members of
the five Soil and Water Conservation Districts of Ka'u, Kona, Puna,
Waiakea and Mauna Kea have provided the residents and the County
of Hawaii with valuable assistance in matters dealing with land
use and drainage; and
WHEREAS, these public spirited individuals have taken on
responsibilities ranging from the implementation of the County's
Grading Ordinance, the management responsibility of the Department
of Health's 208 Water Quality Management Program and the review
of individual's soil conservation programs; and
WHEREAS, the five Soil and Water Conservation Districts of the
Big Island annually sponsor district and county -wide programs of
soil stewardship and the Land Appreciation Contests; and
WHEREAS, the five districts together with the County's depart-
ments of Research and Development, Planning, Water Supply, Parks
and Recreation, and Public Works are the co-sponsors of the Big
Island Resource Conservation and Development Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognize and give credit to the many unnamed
individuals for their community spirit and efforts to assist their
neighbors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
send copies of this resolution to Wing Kong Chong, Chairman,Waiakea
SWCD; Charles Hoopai, Chairman, Puna SWCD; Donald Shintaku,
Chairman, Ka'u SWCD; Peter L'Orange, Chairman, Kona SWCD;
Frances Pacheco, Chairman,Mauna Kea SWCD; and Herbert Matayoshi,
Mayor, County of Hawaii.
