Resolution No. 555
WHEREAS, by Executive Order the Governor has designated 2.34
acres as the Happiness Park under the control and management of the
Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of State Parks,
Outdoor Recreation and Historic Site, situated at Waiakea, at the
mouth of the Wailoa River, Hilo, Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the garden park (Rakuen) was initiated and developed
by landscape architect, Kazuo Nakamura from Kiyoto, Japan, with
contributions from various organizations and individuals; and
WHEREAS, the park was dedicated on May 11, 1979, to all of
our senior citizens, on the Island of Hawaii, and with its
tropical theme the garden provides a setting for the senior
citizen to congregate, enjoy fellowship, to share and display
their products, eventually makeshift stalls will be provided so
the exhibits can be sold to the visitors, tourists; and
WHEREAS, since the dedication, many individuals and organi-
zations have contributed countless hours towards the maintenance
of this beautiful setting now being enjoyed by the local people,
tourist, visitors from other islands with a minimal cost to the
taxpayers; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it congratulates and extends their deepest appreciation
and mahalo to many individuals and organizations who have donated
labor, materials, equipment and continue to contribute towards
the maintenance of the Happiness (Rakuen) Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
send copies of this resolution to the contributors Kazuo Nakamura,
landscape architect from Kiyoto, Japan; Ace Photo Studio; Big
Island Builders, Inc.; Gaspro, Inc.; Jas Glover, Ltd.; H. Harada
Contractor, Inc.; HELCO; Hilo Bay Hotel; H.T. & T. Co., Inc.;
Imata & Associates; Isemoto Contracting Co., Ltd.; Kitsutani
Monument, Inc.; Mauna Kea Electric, Inc.; Mauna Kea Service;
