HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 568 Draft 01 1976-1980County of Hawaii --State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the downtown core of the city of Hilo has not been an exception to the national trend for central core deterioration and decline; and WHEREAS, the problems confronting the efforts to revitalize and redevelop the downtown core is compounded by the continuing threat of recurring tsunami inundation; and WHEREAS, the Department of the Army, Engineering Division, has been working on this tsunami control and abatement problem and may be able to offer alternatives toward the redevelopment efforts; and WHEREAS, a comprehensive study of the Hilo area is also being developed addressing the water resources which also includes bay protection.. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it requests the Department of the Army, Corps of Engineers, to apprise the Council and interested parties the status of the Hilo Area Comprehensive Study with particular emphasis on tsunami control. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit a copy of this resolution to Colonel Henry J.. -Hatch, U. S. District Engineer.
