Resolution
WHEREAS, the Department of Education's Project Holomua, which
features a learning technique known as "Experience Based Career
Education," (EBCE); and
WHEREAS, in its three years of existence Project Holomua has
processed over 230 students, involved more than 250 employers and
received participation or assistance from another 130 adults as
competency certifiers and/or guest speakers; and
WHEREAS, this innovative program has motivated and given a new
sense of purpose for those students not acclimated to the more
structured regular school curricula and more than likely would have
ended up as drop outs from school; and
. WHEREAS, Project Holomua has received favorable evaluation
reports, positive employer reactions, complimentary parental
endorsements and more importantly, a gratifying and respectable
ratio of achievements and successes amongst the participating
students.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII hereby commends Project Holomua for its commendable
endeavors in providing an effective educational alternative
within the public school systems thereby salvaging many young lives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the County of Hawaii
endorsed the continuation of Project Holomua and that funding
request of the Tenth State Legislature be approved and that the
Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to remit copies of
this resolution to Charles G. Clark, Superintendent of Education;
Senators Dante K. Carpenter, Stanley I. Hara and John T. Ushijima;
Representatives Minoru Inaba, Herbert Segawa, Gil Silva,
Yoshito Takamine and Katsuya Yamada and Project Holomua Coordinator
Marsha M.. Oato.
