RESOLUTION ijo. 517 7 `
WHEREAS, Dr. Beatrice Green Markey, a long time resident and
noted educator on the Big Island, passed away at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Markey attained the status of Professor of Political
Science, Emeritus, at the University of Hawaii at Hilo, having served
that institution with dignity and dedication for nineteen years; and
WHEREAS, in her educational career Dr. Markey earned a
Bachelor of Philosophy degree in English from the University of
Chicago, a Master of Science degree and Doctorate in Public Adminis-
tration degree from the University of California; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Markey's creditable employment history included
such work as an employment security officer, tutor, lecturer,
researcher, and adult educator; and
WHEREAS, despite Dr. Markey's busy and full work schedule, she
always found time to provide oral and/or written testimony which
she believed would improve the operations of County government,
some of which were used in the drafting of the first Hawaii County
Charter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it honors the memory of Dr. Beatrice Green Markey,
esteemed educator, who has been an exemplary inspiration to those
who were fortunate to know her.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution along with
its sincere condolences to her husband, Mr. Jack L. Markey, and
her sister, Ms. Alberta M.'Williams.
