RESOLUTION N0.
RESOLUTION CHANGING THE FUNDING SOURCE OF FOUR POSITIONS
UNDER THE COMMUNITY POLICING PROGRAM.
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice, through a contract with the Hawaii
County Police Department, provided federal funding for four (4) positions under the
Community Policing Program for three (3) years, which positions were created by
Resolution No. 264-96; and
WHEREAS, Resolution No. 264-96 specified that "if future funding of the Police
Officer II positions is not received from the federal grant, the County will either continue
funding or abolish these positions"; and
WHEREAS, the funding of these positions will end on May 15, 1999; and
WHEREAS, Position No. 3866 is assigned to the South Hilo District; Position
No. 3867 to Waimea; and Position Nos. 3868 and 3869 to Kona; and
WHEREAS, this program has greatly impacted various communities throughout
the County and has been deemed to be successful; and
WHEREAS, after the federal funds have been expended, the County will
continue to fund these positions; and
WHEREAS, funds are available in the following accounts:
Position No. 3866 010-201-5207.01-011 South Hilo
Position No. 3867 010-201-5210.01-011 Waimea
Position Nos. 3868 & 3869 010-201-5212-O1-011 Kona
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it will continue to fund Position Nos. 3866, 3867, 3868 and
3869 after the Community Policing grant funds have been expended.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that funds aze available in the respective regular
salaries and wages accounts in the districts that the positions aze assigned to.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Departments of Finance and Police.
