Aloha,
I was disappointed to see that you were not at the very important meeting of the council
yesterday.
Here are my thoughts on the actions of the council that precipitated the need for the
meeting, and the need to have the county's legal council present.
First, I feel that the members of the council were remiss in discussing council business outside
of the public meetings...... whether that constitutes a breach of the Sunshine Law or not.
It should NEVER appear that county business is being conducted away from the eyes and
ears of the people whom you serve.
Second, I think the best way to rebuild the publics trust in the council is to defer for several
months, any discussion, action, or votes to change the, council chairmanships from what they
were BEFORE the'behind the scenes' discussions.
I hope that all of the members of the council that participated in the alleged breach of the
Sunshine Law has learned from this experience and will take extra effort to see that county
business is conducted in an honest and open manner in the future.
I had hopes that this council would be different when it was formed this past year, without the
personal rivalries and perceived back-biting of previous years.
Granted, each of the districts may have differing hopes and ideas for their districts, but working
together in harmony and for the good of the entire district should be the main, the only goal of
the entire council.
Finally, I ask that you read this to the council at the next meeting. I think that the entire council
needs to hear this.
