RESOLUT `6N 462
WHEREAS, after 20 years of judicial service, Third District
Court Judge Mark Norman Olds will retire on July 21, 1979; and
WHEREAS, upon graduation from St. Louis High School in 1932,
Judge Olds attended and received his bachelor's degree from the
University of Hawaii and earned his law degree from the University
of San Francisco School of. Law; and
WHEREAS, he began his career by working as a law clerk at the
Circuit Court while attending the University of Hawaii and after
graduating from law school worked for the law firm of Anderson,
Wrenn and Jenks; and
14HEREAS, his government service began when he served as
Deputy Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu in 1946, First
Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the County of Hawaii in 1947, and
Magistrate of the District Courts of Puna, North and South Hilo,
and Hamakua in 1949; and
WHEREAS, in 1956 Judge Olds ran as a Democrat for the office
of Representative, Territory of Hawaii, and was elected from the
First Representative District; and
WHEREAS, Judge Olds returned to government service in 1971 as
Administrative Judge, Third District Court, and in 1978 was assigned
as the first fulltime judge to 'the newly -created Fiona Division
covering the courthouses in the districts of Ka'u, North and
South Kona, and Hamakun; and
