County of Hawaii --State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, statistics indicate that 58 percent of farm acreage in
the State of Hawaii is located on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, some 59 percent of all the farms in the State of Hawaii
are located on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, nearly half of the total allocation of Federal funds
under the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service's
Agricultural Conservation Program to the State of Hawaii is annually
earmarked for Hawaii County; and
WHEREAS, as the future of our State diversified farming industry
is perceived to be on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, accordingly, Federal
offices should locate themselves as
possible,
and State agricultural agencies and
close to their major work site as
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the U. S. Department of Agriculture to relocate
their State Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Office
to the island of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
and is hereby directed to remit a true copy of this resolution to
Mr. Bob Bergland, Secretary of Agriculture; the Honorable Daniel K.
Inouye, United States Senator; the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga, United
States Senator; the Honorable Daniel K. Akaka, United States Congressman;
the Honorable Cecil Heftel, United States Congressman; and to the Hawaii
County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service Office.
