Resolution
WHEREAS, in compliance with the Federal Water Pollution Act of 1972,
and more specifically Section 208 of Public Law 92-500, the County of Hawaii
acknowledges the importance of a water quality management plan which will
insure "clean and swimmable waters" for our future generations'; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Health and the other counties have
jointly and cooperatively prepared an Areawide Water Quality Management
Plan; and
WHEREAS, the State '208' Plan will serve as the guide for development of
regional waste treatment systems and the control of non -point sources of
pollution, such as stormwater run-off; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii's management responsibilities specified
in the plan include sewage treatment and solid waste facilities, eventual
management of private sewage disposal systems, soil erosion and sediment
controls, and stormwater management plans for appropriate drainage basins;
and
WHEREAS, County acceptance of the management responsibilities is depen-
dent upon adequate funding to implement the recommendations specified; and
WHEREAS, the State '208' Plan was recently approved by the U. S.
Environmental Protection Agency contingent on evidence of the County's
sanction of the Plan;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of Hawaii
that it hereby formally adopts the County of Hawaii's '208' Plan; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit
certified copies of this resolution to the U. S. Environmental Protection
Agency, State Department of Health and to the Council Chairmen of the City
and County of Honolulu and Kauai.
