Kono are saddened by his sudden and untimely passing; and WHEREAS, Lawrence Kono, despite his youthfulness, was recognized as an established business and community leader; and WHEREAS, in his business endeavors, he was the President and owner of the Hilo Transportation Company, a former president of the Kanoelehua Industrial Area Association, chairman of the Hawaii Island Truckers' Standing Rate Committee, and served as a member of numerous business oriented service organizations; and WEIEREAS, Mr. Kono's most visible and notable contributions came in the governmental and community arenas where he was resoundingly elected and served as a delegate to the 1978 State of Hawaii Constitutional Convention, was a past vice-president and director of the American Cancer Society, a former director of the Hawaii Humane Society, a co-founder of the Big Island Hospital Association, and was honored by the Hilo Jaycees by being selected as the Outstanding Young Nan in 1972; NOW, THEREFOPE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TETE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII in testament to an exemplary individual `.z who has made great contributions to our community, extends to his family its most profound condolence and deepest sympathy; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to his mother, Dr. Elaine K.
