RESOLUTION 436
WHEREAS, a benchmark was set by the Waiakea High School
baseball team on April 20, 1979, when they won their first major
sporting championship by capturing the Big Island Interscholastic
Federation (BIIF) baseball title; and
WHEREAS, this young Waiakea Warriors' team, competing in only
its second year in varsity sports, completed its regular baseball
season with a record of eight victories and one loss, plus a
two -game sweep over Konawaena in playoff competition; and
WHEREAS, the Warriors, made up of freshmen, sophomores and
juniors, ably represented the Big Island in the recently -concluded
State Tournament in Honolulu by winning two out of three games enroute
to capturing the respectable consolation honors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that in recognition of this milestone achievement in BIIF
sports, extends to the young Waiakea High School baseball team its
congratulations and wishes for continued excellence in the field
of sports.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
Dennis Kagawa, Head Coach; Herman Manalili, Pitching Coach;
Wayne Abalos, Athletic Director; and Robert Bean, Principal, all
of Waiakea High School.
