WHEREAS, Iris Kewahine imoto was selected and crowned Miss
Aloha Hawaii 1979 on April -7, 1979,.at the Miss Aloha Hawaii
Scholarship Pageant sponsored.by..the Lehua Jaycees; and
4ZIEREAS, Iris Kewahine Imoto became a winner after competing
with ten other beautiful, -poised and talented contestants in the
celebrated 28th Annual Pageant;.and
WHEREAS, Miss Imoto won the swimsuit competition and talent
competition with her gymnastic routine to the tune of "Bless the
Beasts and the Children";.and
WHEREAS, a graduate of Hilo high School and a student at
Hilo College in Physical Education, Iris Imoto plans to matriculate
at Springfield College, Massachusetts, in order that she might'
continue her education with.the_hopes of becoming a gymnastics
instructor; and
D7HEREAS, Iris Imoto has been a.very active leader in the
Wainaku 4-H Club and at age 16,she took 1st place in all four
Statewide Gymnastic events.in.the year 1977 held'here in Hilo; and
WHEREAS, as Miss Aloha Hawaii, Iris Imoto will serve her reign
as the official greeter and goodwill ambassador for the Big Island
and represent the island of Hawaii in our statewide Miss Hawaii
Pageant; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that in recognition and commendation for this
esteemed achievement it hereby extends to Miss Iris Kewahine Imoto
its congratulations and best wishes for success during her reign
as Miss Aloha Hawaii 1979-80.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby instructed to remit true copies of this resolution
to Iris Kewahine Imoto, to her parents, Toshio and Pauline Imoto,
to her sponsor, Captain Cook Investment Company, Incorporated,
and to the pageant sponsor,. the Lehua Jaycees.
