HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 426 Draft 01 1976-1980r / t RESOLUTION NO. 426 WHEREAS, President Jilmnv Carter has issued a proclamation declaring the week of,May 28 through June 3, 1979, as Vietnam Veterans Week in honor of the millions of Americans who served in the Vietnam War; and WHEREAS, the Vietnam War was the longest and most expensive in the Nation's history and it was the most costly in human lives and suffering; and WHEREAS, the members of our armed forces who served in Vietnam have quietly resumed their roles in the American Society and their contributions and sacrifices during the campaign have gone without much recognition and fanfare; and WHEREAS, the Veterans of the Vietnam War are long overdue in the recognition of their status amongst the Veterans of all of our wars, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIME COUNCIL OF TIME COUNTY OF HAWAII that it observes the week of May 28 through June 3, 1979, in recognition of the Veterans of the Vietnam War for their contributions toward the preservation of world peace. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Jimmy Carter, President of the United States of America; the honorable George R. Ariyoshi, Governor of. the State of Hawaii; the honorable Herbert T. Matavoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; Mr. Jack Kono, President, Big Island Veterans Association; and Mr. Patrick Pavao, Veterans Affairs Coordinator, Hilo, Hawaii.
