WHEREAS, Father John H. Joyce, M. M., a former native son of.
the State of New York, but more recently an adopted and esteemed son
of Hawaii, will be leaving the islands for a long -deserved vacation
and then to eventual retirement in Los Altos, California; and
WHEREAS, this dedicated Son of God has left his mark in many
parishes around the state, with both the St. Joseph's church and
schools being the chief beneficiaries due to his long and effective
tenure there; and
WHEREAS, Father Joyce's presence and past services within
our communities over the years have been influential in the religious
and spiritual development of many of our people whether young, or old,
rich or poor and of every racial extraction; and
WHEREAS, Father Joyce's invocationsbefore the County Council
were eloquent wherein he imparted meaningful- words of wisdom,
encouragement, confidence and hope.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TI:E COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in recognition of the positive and lasting contributions
Father John H. Joyce, M. M., has given to our people and for the
respect and admiration he has earned, that the Council extends its
thanks for the noteworthy memories he leaves behind and wishes
Father Joyce many years of happy retirement.
BE IT FURTHER. RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of this Resolution to
Father John H. Joyce, M. M.; Father John J. Stankard, M. M., Regional
Superior of Maryknoll Fathers; Father William Desmond, M. M., Pastor,
St. Joseph's Church; and the Most Reverend John J. Scanlan, D. D.,
Bishop of Honolulu.
