WHEREAS, LYNNE KIM.URA, a senior at Hilo High School, was
recently selected as a 1979 finalist in the Presidential Scholars
Program; and
WHEREAS, LYNNE's selection recognizes her placement amongst
the top 1,000 intellectually distinguished and accomplished
graduating high school seniors nationwide; and
WHEREAS, the honor qualifies LYNNE KIMURA for further
consideration to the final 121 Scholars who will receive personal
recognition in Washington, D. C., from the U. S. Commission of
Education and the Commission of. Presidential Scholars: and
WHEREAS, the purpose of this program is "To recognize the
most precious resource of the United States --the brain power
of its young people, to encourage the pursuit of intellectual
attainment among all of our youth."
NOW, TIiEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby acknowledges and commends LYNNE KIMURA
for her accomplishments and extends its best wishes for her
future success.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit true copies of this resolution to Lynne Kimura
and to her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Shunichi Kimura of T.iilo.
