WHEREAS, the Kohala High School basketball team won the
1979 BIIF basketball championship after culminating a superlative
undefeated season featuring twenty (20) victories in league play;
and
WHEREAS, this coveted achievement, after a hiatus of
twenty-six (26) years, was well-earned and deserved as the league
was highly competitive with many quality teams participating; and
WHEREAS, despite adversities, as being a school with a
relatively small student body and having to field a team that
lacked height, it overcame these shortcomings by playing tough
defense and consistent, unselfish teamwork offense; and
WHEREAS, as BIIF champions, the Kohala Cowboys represented
the Big Island in the recently concluded State of Hawaii Class AFS
tournament in Honolulu where against great odds they won a
respectable fourth place.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in commendation to the Championship Kohala High
School basketball team for its excellence in the 1979 BIIF
basketball season and for its strong showing at the State
Tournament, remits its congratulations and wishes for continued
success in the future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that theCCounty Clerk remit true
copies of"this resolution to Coach Harris Moku and Principal
Dr., Edward S. Okada.
