WHEREAS, many relatives and friends mourn the passing of
Mary C. Torres, who passed away on Thursday, March 1, 1979, in
Santa Monica, California; and
WHEREAS, Mary C. Torres, a long time resident of Keaau, who
was well known for her strong convictions and her fortitude to
articulate her views in the governmental and political arenas; and
WHEREAS, although she was considered controversial by some,
Mary C. Torres was nonetheless respected and even admired for her
courage to speak out for what she believed was right for the
people; and
WHEREAS, for her endeavors, Mary was recognized and served
as a critic and a "watchdog" of the Hawaii County Council's
activities in a manner and style for which she will be most
remembered by those who have experienced the "Torres Touch".
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that in memory of a lady who has made and left her
mark upon all of us in government, extends to her family its
deepest condolences.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to her
husband .Anton T. Torres.
