County of Hawaii --State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, Pu'uhonua, a family crisis shelter in Hilo, Hawaii,
has provided many of the families in our community with a place
of solitude and counsel during critical periods; and
WHEREAS, the ever-increasing costs of the State's social,
welfare and health programs are indicative of the mounting pressures
on the survival of the family unit; and
WHEREAS, the retention of a wholesome family would relieve
society and the taxpayers of the burden to provide social programs
for broken families; and
WHEREAS, during the 1978-79 program budget review of the
County of Hawaii the Council of the County of Hawaii did recognize
the urgency of this problem and did provide some of the seed
monies necessary to implement the organization of the family
crisis shelter.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it encourages the members of the Senate and the
House of Representatives to assist the Pu'uhonua organization
in their efforts to continue their work in keeping the basic
family unit together.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Richard S. H.
Wong, President of the Senate; the Honorable James H. Wakatsuki,
Speaker of the House of Representatives; the Honorable Benjamin. J.
Cayetano, Chairman, Senate Ways and Means; and the Honorable
Jack K. Suwa, Chairman,House Finance.
